Dyson DC07 and DC14 Aftermarket Swivel Dusting Brush Review

Dyson DC07 and DC14 Aftermarket Swivel Dusting BrushGotta like this.In an ill-conceived effort to "help", I vacuumed up some crumbs around our stove. There was a rebel crumb holing up near the stove top burner, and well, you guessed it, the burner was still warm and it warped the Dyson brush attachment.I ordered this new one to replace it.This is a better product--the bristles are longer and softer.Probably not heat resistant, but I'm not going to test that.

Dyson Mini Turbine Tool Review

Dyson Mini Turbine ToolIf you're reading this then you've probably experienced one of two things:1.) your animal tool on the purple Dyson finally choked and died or 2.) you have a Dyson and are interested in this tool because it picks up animal hair.Either way, both reasons are why I bought the Dyson in the first place.

This is the attachment/upgrade for the animal tool that was originally put out.The old one (all grey) was EXCELLENT and always got all the hair/lint/whatever off anything I had -- including throw pillows. The problem with the old animal tool was that it was impossible to clean out in case anything got clogged inside of it which eventually kills it.So... this tool that you're looking at is pretty much Dyson's answer -- it's redesigned and been put out. There are plenty of Pros and Cons:

PROS:
- It does work on throw pillows but you have to brush a little lighter. In fact, sweeping side to side almost works better than up and down.

- It can be opened up to clean out any part of it -- something the old one can't do.

- It can fit any Dyson model available.

CONS:

- Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well as the old model (now discontinued) without some patience.

- There is an air filter on it that if bumped, closes and stops the brush from spinning. You'll notice if it does -- just pull it out.Bit of a pain, but not horrible.

- The brush does stop spinning if you flatten it against the material -- this part doesn't make sense to me.Isn't that the point? To get close to the fabric and pull off every bit of fiber you don't want? The original did it just fine.

- At the $69 pricetag I've seen just about everywhere, I feel that this is a SERIOUS error on Dyson's part. This does not perform nearly as well as the old one and therefore overpriced. If there was a discount or a price reduction for those of us who own a Dyson, I'd be happier but this is the first time I've said one of Dyson's products is somewhat of a ripoff.

BOTTOM LINE:

Whelp, if you owned the old one and it's toast I'm afraid that this is your only option. Is it worth it?Well, it still does better than any vacuum attachment I've ever seen but performs at 65% best compared to the discontinued model.Buyer look around for it to (hopefully) be discounted.I could see paying half that price but nowhere is it listed lower.Otherwise, I hope Dyson reads this and either improves it or lowers the price.

2 and 1/2 stars would be my choice: It's half as good as the old one.

Dyson Soft Dusting Brush Review

Dyson Soft Dusting BrushFirst off let me say that YES - this is the Dyson soft dusting brush even though Amazon doesn't seem to have a picture up for some reason.I was a bit nervous when I ordered the attachment because there was a listing with picture but "out of stock," and then this one, which was in stock but no picture.Unfortunately when I ordered it there were no reviews to confirm the product was what I thought. However when it arrived it was the correct item, so it all turned out ok.

How it works -
The attachment is around a foot long (including bristles); it is a lint remover brush-head surrounded by soft plastic bristles. The red area is the lint remover (think of the dog hair removal brushes your mom uses); it has two suction holes - one at the head, one at the base - which allow the swept dust to be sucked into the vacuum while running. When both holes are covered (such as when doing a large, flat surface) the suction is as powerful as any of the other Dyson wand attachments. When only one hole is covered or there is a break in the surface between the two holes (smaller surfaces or blinds) the suction is still strong, but not quite as "vice-like."The idea behind the brush is that the vacuum action will suck in all the dust instead of allowing it to escape into the air.In this regard, the Dyson seems to leave a much smaller "dust footprint" than manual dusters because it does not cause dust clouds. As with all Dyson wand attachments, the dusting brush comes with two adapters which plug straight into the wand which allow it to be used with any type of Dyson vacuum.

Pros and Cons -
I bought the dusting attachment because the brush heads that came with the DC17 weren't cutting it for what I needed. They were either too small or did not form a tight enough seal around the areas I was dusting to pick up all the dust and debris.I live in an old house with old fashion plaster walls and with three furry dogs, so there is constantly dust in the house.

The Dusting Brush is very good for handling things like blinds and large, flat surfaces, but not quite as well in the little hard to reach spots or thin areas. So the brush will get all the dust on the entertainment center, floor-standing speakers, coffee table, etc, however the rear speaker stand, some furniture molding, tight corners - will all require touch-up even after vacuuming. You can pretty much forget dusting behind furniture or in awkward places.Even if you're able to get the brush to fit, chances are you won't form a tight enough seal around the object you're trying to dust for the vacuum action to work. You're still better off using a crevice tool - or no attachment at all.

Also, I purchased this attachment specifically because of the picture of the brush taking the dust off of the TV.The hard surfaces of the dusting brush are prevented from touching your wares only by way of padding. In other words, the suction holes (which are ringed by plastic) are only kept apart from the surface by the padding within the red lint dusting material. If your Dyson "really sucks" (sorry, couldn't think of another way to put it), you may be like me and get nervous about putting this attachment near anything that scratches easily. This brush would be fine for CRT tube TVs or even LCDs, but I think I'm still going to wipe down my plasma manually with a soft rag.

Reading what I've written so far, my review sounds very negative, but I don't want to leave you with that impression. The dusting brush is extremely useful and I would go so far as to say that I hope that Dyson would consider including it as a standard attachment in their future vacuums. However I think most people who look at the Dyson attachments already know what the attachments *can do*, and want to know about what they *can't do*.I do not regret my purchase, and I would definitely make it again because I do use the heck out of the brush, but I'm not using it for the same reasons I had mentally in my head when I purchased it.

Dyson Mattress Tool Review

Dyson Mattress ToolThe Mattress Tool is the most used tool from my Dyson DC14 Animal Upright Vacuum collection.I inherited a cat who assumes my queen size bed is hers.I use this tool on the mattress, mattress pad, feather bed, sheets (while still on the bed), pillow cases (left on the pillows),pillows and my beloved quilts and shams (easiest to clean while left on bed).It really saves time and my washer and dryer.I used to double and triple wash to get rid of the cat hair and have to clean hair out of the washer each time.I even use it on clothing (I put them on a hanger and hold the bottom down while gliding the tool downward).I also have a 12 yr. old German Shepherd who sheds a lot.I use the Mini Turbine Head to clean her super-sized bed and twin-sized sheets (easiest while still on bed).I also have the Low Reach Floor Tool.Fantastic for getting pet hair from under my heavy furniture.I've owned a lot of vacuums and Dyson is by far the best out there for pet owners.I use all of the tools and they are great.I hardly ever used the tools on my other uprights because they didn't seem to get enough suction to do the job right. After 12 years of struggling to keep up with all of the pet hair now I can get the job done in no time and the results are a truly clean house.I've actually reversed the damage to my carpets from embedded pet hair.Dyson is powerful enough to pull out the pet hair.Another good point,Dyson is the cleanest vacuum to use.No spilled dirt while emptying the dirt bin (like my other two bagless vacuums) and no nasty filters to wash every time you vacuum. How good can it possibly get?!!
